Nu Quantum is at the forefront of quantum computing and advanced technology, driven by innovation, diversity, and a commitment to excellence. We’re creating an environment where brilliant minds from all backgrounds collaborate to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

Founded to commercialise research generated over the last decade at the Cavendish Laboratory, Nu Quantum is on a mission to shape the future of quantum information systems.

We’re working on exciting technology that will improve the utility and accelerate the time-to-market of quantum computing systems. We integrate novel quantum photonic technology to form an efficient and scalable quantum networking infrastructure in partnership with world-leading companies and academic groups.

The role

We are looking for an Electronics Engineer with experience of radio-frequency and high-frequency design to join our highly collaborative team, supporting the development of our novel quantum networking hardware. The successful candidate will be working with, and supported by, teams spanning mechanical, electronics, optical, nanofabrication, software and physics.  There will be opportunities to work with cutting-edge technologies and to try out highly creative and innovative designs.

Your responsibilities:

  • Liaising with team members from many technical disciplines, to refine architecture and specifications for electronics systems.
  • Carrying out design calculations and simulations.
  • Producing high-quality electronic schematics, PCB layouts, and system designs.
  • Organising the manufacture of prototype systems.
  • Hands-on testing, debugging and improving complex electronic and optical setups.
  • Analysis of experimental results.
  • Contributing to development of best practice electronic design workflows.
  • Helping others in the company develop technical solutions with your expertise.

Your skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Degree-level qualification in electronics, physics or other closely-related subject.
  • Industry experience with analogue and radio-frequency electronic design.
  • Understanding of radio-frequency engineering concepts such as s-parameters and impedance matching.
  • Experience with PCB design tools, including design for manufacture and reliability.
  • Experience with electronic and/or radio-frequency simulation tools.
  • Ability to perform hands-on testing and experimentation using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and similar equipment.
  • Ability to collaborate and be a great team player, working with multidisciplinary teams to meet demanding specifications.

Desirable skills and experience (not required, but beneficial):

  • Ability to solder and rework high-density PCBs.
  • Experience integrating of multiple sub-assemblies to form complete electronic systems.
  • Experience with Altium Designer.
  • Experience with Ansys HFSS.
  • Understanding of noise in electronic circuits.
  • Experience with FPGAs.
